AAFSW created the Housing Office many decades ago to help Foreign Service families who are relocating to the DC area, and to allow Foreign Service families to advertise their property before going on an overseas assignment. We also allow people outside the Foreign Service community to post ads, in order to provide a greater housing selection for FS families.

Because some ads are posted by landlords outside the Foreign Service community, we urge people to exercise caution in their dealings with these landlords. Though most are legitimate, we have had some reports of scammers who demand a deposit before showing a property, or demand money from FS employees who are planning to relocate to the DC area before they can see the property.
